5 Supplements that will give your toddler an immunity boost this cold/flu season

Updated: Oct 26, 2020

So it has been a crazy year. The year 2020 is definitely a year that no one could have predicted. I sometimes feel like we have all lived three years mashed up into one. With the uncertainty of living through a pandemic, it can become stressful, being a working single mom is hard, cold and flu season is extremely hard on the little ones... So after going through COVID-19 myself I noticed that there were ways to help build my immune system with supplements and vitamins to help my body naturally fight off the virus. So I did the same thing with my son to help build his immunity.

As always, it's important to check out the nutrition label to ensure that a supplement is providing adequate nutrition for your child. Note that these vitamins and supplements are suggestions only. Please be sure to consult with your child's pediatrician before starting your child on new vitamins and supplements.

Check out the top 5 vitamins and supplements you need for this cold/flu and COVID-19 season!

My review: I really like this syrup for my son because he truly likes the taste and it also does not contain any nuts or eggs. Because my son has a nut allergy I am very careful about the supplements and vitamins that I give him. I would recommend buying two at a time of this product mainly because this item is usually out of stock at Walmart.

Sambucol for Kids Syrup provides 1.9g of elderberry per serving and a punch of Vitamin C, all with a great tasting berry flavor. For ages, 2-12. Sambucol was developed by a world-renowned virologist to tap into the power of the elderberry’s extremely high level of antioxidants and is trusted by millions to provide immune support for their families.

  • No artificial flavors or colors

  • Sweetened with Pure Cane Sugar

  • Gluten, soy, dairy, nut, and egg-free

  • Vegan and Vegetarian Product

  • Kosher Product

My review: I have found that when giving my son vitamins in the gummy form he is more excited to take them each day. I am a big fan of the little critters brand my son absolutely use to love these vitamins but after finding out my son had a nut allergy I had to switch to another brand that does not contain nuts.

  • #1 Kids Gummy Vitamin Brand [1] Kids love the great taste, naturally sourced flavors, and the fun gummy bear shape. Parents can trust that kids are getting essential vitamins and minerals to support and maintain healthy growth and development.

  • For ages 2 and up

  • Features: Dairy-Free, No Artificial Sweeteners, No Artificial Colors, No Artificial Flavors, No High Fructose Corn Syrup

  • May Contain: Fish, Shellfish, Tree Nuts, Soy, Eggs

My review: I have been using the Zarbee's brand since my child was an infant. This brand's products usually are all-natural and have worked tremendously well for my son. When first trying out elderberry products I started with the syrup and then I tried these gummies with my son after attempting to order the syrup and they were out of stock. My son likes both the syrup and gummies but I believe he prefers gummies. He's at the age where anything that resembles fruit snacks he will take.

Zarbee's Naturals Children's Elderberry Immune Support* with Vitamin C & Zinc, Natural Berry Flavor (80 ct.) provides vitamins A, C, D, E, and zinc. They're made with real elderberry extract, an antioxidant that gives them their delicious taste. Zarbeee's whole line of products is made from handpicked wholesome ingredients, and without any drugs, alcohol, or artificial flavors.

  • Formulated with vitamins A, C, D, E & zinc for immune support

  • Gummies are made with vegetarian and vegan ingredients

  • Real elderberry extract for a delicious taste

  • Free of drugs, alcohol, dyes, gluten, and artificial flavors

My Review: These are the first multivitamins I tried for my son. He likes that the gummies come in different shapes and colors. He has a blast choosing between which shape to eat in the morning. As with the above vitamin, because this may contain tree nuts we had to switch him to a nut-free multivitamin but I would suggest this for anyone just starting their kids on vitamins or looking to switch brands.

Flintstones multivitamins have been providing kids nutritional support as they grow up healthy and strong for more than 50 years. These daily multivitamins provide vitamins and minerals that growing bodies may need. Flintstones Gummies have key nutrients that support physical energy by helping convert food to fuel, while also supporting bone health, immune health, and eye health in a fun gummy.

  • Contains: Coconut, Wheat

  • May Contain: Tree Nuts

  • Suggested Age: 2 Years and Up

My Review: This is the first probiotic supplement I have tried for my son. So far it seems to be working. Since cold and flu season is upon us I wanted to try something new that could help for this dreaded season. I take probiotics to supplement each day so I thought to myself they should have something like this for a toddler and they did! If you are looking for a new way to keep your little ones protected during this season, definitely try this brand out!

Toddler's Probiotic includes 6 strains of beneficial bacteria for infants and toddlers 1-5 years old. One serving per day helps maintain healthy intestinal flora, supports the immune system, and is ideal for travelers to maintain healthy flora while away from home.* Since probiotics are living organisms, their potency slowly decreases over time (2% per month).

Highlights for this product:

  • Gluten-Free

  • Raw Probiotics

  • Product of Canada

  • 6 Infant & Toddler-Specific Strains

  • 3 Billion Cells at Time of Manufacture

I hope this list helps with building your child's immunity. Suggestions on other great vitamins and supplements to use?
